Developing guidelines for solid waste management is one of the main objectives of this project. Asian and European experts join their forces to identify and overcome hurdles and practical difficulties. A know-how transfer is supposed to improve the knowledge on cost-efficient technological solutions and to encourage people involved in the sector to find new approaches. To clear the way for these efforts, technological, legislative, socio-economical and financial questions need to be answered. An industry sector that implements sustainable solutions for waste disposal on regional markets will be strengthen.

Municipal administration and popular opinion leaders will be involved to ensure access to several groups of the population. In a first step, current activities in solid waste management in Asia are analyzed and evaluated. Regarding case studies and the comparison of several possibilities, guidelines for sustainable solid waste management will be developed to improve the situation. In order to improve the state of knowledge on technological solutions, ecological consequences as well as socio-economic and political aspects, suitable measures will be put into practice.

With a better background on the relevant factors concerning the situation of waste management, players and stakeholders have better chances to find new approaches. Progress made within the project will be documented and rated in order to figure out the most effective actions. Building a network and an online platform for an exchange of experiences will boost communication withing the sector. These activities are meant to accelerate to process of finding effective strategies for solid waste management in Bangladesh, India, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Indonesia and the Philippines.
