In line with its objectives of bringing food research and industry closer together and promoting high-tech innovation in the food industry, HighTech Europe , a European Network of Excellence, has launched the European Food Processing Implementation Award. It commends innovations in food processing and improvement of food quality which have been successfully developed along a knowledge transfer chain. The aim of this award is to encourage small and medium-sized enterprises in the food production industry to adopt innovative knowledge – in particular latest findings from biotechnology, nanotechnology as well as information and communication technology – in order to strengthen them in the face of global competition.
Bremerhaven, May 2010. Individuals, enterprises, and institutes active in the field of food research or in the food industry can apply for the European Food Processing Implementation Award. Only recent innovations (within the last 3 years), originating from the area of biotechnology, nanotechnology or ICT and which can be applied for the improvement of food quality or food processing, will be considered. As the European Food Processing Implementation Award serves as an incentive for cooperation between research institutes and the food industry, innovations resulting from interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral efforts will be favoured.
The actual European Food Processing Implementation Award itself, which is presented biannually, is a work of art. In addition, the winners are eligible to use the “Winner of the European Food Processing Implementation Award” logo for two years. The first award ceremony will be held at the next EFFoST-EHEDG conference in Dublin, Ireland (10 – 12 November 2010) and travel expenses for the winner to the ceremony will be covered.
The HighTech Europe Network of Excellence was initiated by ttz Bremerhaven, as a provider of research services, and the German Institute of Food Technologies (DIL e.V.) with the objective of strengthening the European food sector in the face of global competition. ttz Bremerhaven, as co-initiator, is involved above all in those components of the project concerned with consumer research, organisation of technology and innovation workshops throughout Europe, the Knowledge Auction and the awarding of the European Food Processing Implementation Award.
